The reason behind that is simple, we prefer to watch, read and talk about those things that have something controversial in them. Matters without controversies hardly have the power to attract so many people as the way controversial issues can do. The same human psychology is applicable in case of advertisement and that is why companies prefer to add a sprinkle of controversy in their ads.

The main purpose of advertisement is of course attracts the eyes and minds of the viewers. There are several methods that are used by the advertisers in order to grab the attention of the viewers. Some take the help of strong and bold contents, some use humor and some use very casual tone to attract the viewers. But some prefer to use something different to take the attention of millions. They use weird images or present their ads in such an unusual manner that not only attracts us but make us think of the matter long after we see the advertisement.

Some advertisements have really shocking effects on our mind. Some of them use extreme images to hit the mind of the viewers and some use a perfect blending of content with image to make it an extreme and controversial one. These ads may effects so deep into our mind that every time we see that particular product or come across the similar incident that is shown in the ad, we have to remember the advertisement. In that way the purpose of the advertisers becomes successful; their creation hits the mind of the viewers and grabs a place in their thoughts.

Some may find this kind of ads not good for our society since they can harm the innocent thoughts of children and young adults. But at the same time this is the fact that in order to give serious messages on child laboring, child abuse, domestic violence, good parenting or care for parents’ bold expressions of thoughts can be required. However, there are some product base ads as well that use this conception of controversial campaigning to attract the consumers. Despite of criticisms people love to see these kinds of extreme and controversial ads to become stunned. That is why the demand for this type of ads is increasing day by day in the field of advertisement and marketing.

    This is some powerful stuff, I think these work great for the ones for charities, I think the stronger a charity can make it’s point the more impact it’s going to have on people. Although I can see how the ones for brands and companies could be potentially detrimental to their image, but they do say any publicity is good publicity – and getting people talking about your brand is most likely always going to have positive impacts.

    I think my favourites here are the Prius one, it’s maybe one of the most controversial, but the tagline implies that it’s meant to be taken humorously, not to offend. I also like the wrong job barber/ monster.com advert, the lighting and photography is great and again its a lighthearted (if you take it that way) of advertising the contrast of finding a new job that is going to better suit you.

    That was some intense, in your face, reality is reality type advertisement. Brilliance ! I think more commercials and pages in magazines need to throw some perspective in peoples faces – this is reality advertisement. Grip your chair and study these in details.
