Great collection but these concepts and ideas aren’t new. These techniques are rehashes of dynamics, animation, and interactivity used in Flash long before.

Ideally it would be really informative to know what the toolboxes were that the designers used to build their animated pages.

    Nice review, though.

That was cringeworthy. These are all horrible throwbacks to the days of flash. They weren’t useful then and they aren’t useful now.
This is what happens when webdesign is done by a marketing department and not a UI designer who know his trade. The mere fact that these atrocities have loading screens(!) is a dealbreaker. While we are at it, lets bring back Hit Counters!
I will not sit and watch bloated and self-indulgent animated intros. They are nothing but reskinned versions of the 1999 flash hell we struggled to get over until apple put its foot down and stopped supporting it.
These sites were clearly built with the visual aesthetics in mind. They have no clear indication what to do or where to do it. They are a gimmick.

Plus, seeing the web catering more and more to mobile and touch devices, having websites that focus primarily on hover effects is very much bad practice.
