Interview with Jeffrey Zeldman of Happy Cog (Podcast)

Jeffrey Zeldman

Words are an integral part of the design experience.

In this podcast interview, Jeffrey Zeldman of Happy Cog and publisher of A List Apart explains his writing process and why it is important. Zeldman is an authority in the design community, known for his work with websites and branding and as a designer and writer.

According to Zeldman, good writing creates interest, encourages designers and developers to think about the content and engages users with the website and experience created therein.

“You need to be able to express your ideas,” he said. “So find a way to get your thoughts out there so you have experience articulating and defending a point of view, because that’s what design iltimately is; a point of view.”

One of the most interesting points Zeldman makes is that web design is all type, from HTML to CSS. It’s all made from words. Words guide the design from start to finish and as a designer or developer, it is your duty to embrace that.
