Need a Canva alternative built for email?
Canva Email is a pleasant place to lay out a message. But by Canva’s own documentation it doesn’t send your email, it hands you a ZIP of images to host yourself, and it can’t show you how the design lands in Gmail or Outlook. Postcards covers the rest of that job — hosted images, email client preview, and a one-click export straight into your ESP. Here’s how the two compare.
Open EditorThe Breakdown
-
Built for email end to end
Canva’s help centre puts it plainly: Canva doesn’t send emails directly. You design, export, and hand off. Postcards takes you from the first block to a one-click export straight into your ESP, without leaving the tool.
-
Your images stay hosted
Canva’s documented export is a ZIP containing the HTML plus your image files, which you then upload and host somewhere yourself. Postcards hosts every image for you with unlimited storage and traffic, so nothing breaks after the campaign goes out.
-
See it before you send it
Postcards shows you how your email actually renders in Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and the rest, right inside the editor. Canva has no client preview — its advice is to send yourself a test and check by eye, and those test emails only go to your own Canva login address.
-
Customizable mobile view
Canva Email columns stack automatically on mobile, which is fine until the automatic result isn’t what you wanted. Postcards lets you open the mobile view and change it directly — spacing, sizes, what shows and what hides — without touching the desktop layout.
Pricing
Canva Pro is the cheaper subscription on paper. The question is how much of it is actually pointed at email.
-
What the plan covers
Canva Pro runs $15/month month-to-month and covers all of Canva — presentations, social, video, and email together. Postcards starts at $19/month and every part of it is email: templates, exports, client preview, and hosting.
-
AI that’s all yours
Postcards gives you 5,000 AI credits a month on Plus and 10,000 on Pro, spent entirely on email. Canva’s allowance is one shared pool across the whole platform — roughly 200 to 400 design generations a month — so every deck and video you make comes out of the same budget as your emails.
-
Teammates included
Postcards includes 2 teammates on the entry plan and 4 on Pro, with extra seats at $8 each. Canva Pro is sold for one person — to bring colleagues in you move up to Canva Business, which is priced per person.
Integrations
Postcards exports in one click to every major email service provider — HubSpot, Mailchimp, Sendpulse, Brevo and more — and ships a Chrome extension, an Outlook add-in and a Google Workspace app. Canva Email shares directly to a much shorter list of platforms; for everything else you copy the HTML or download a ZIP and take it there yourself.

I like that it is easy to use, and I don't need to know how to code. We send emails through Pardot, and I am easily able to export the HTML code and just paste it right into Pardot.

The Winner
Canva is a genuinely excellent design tool, and Canva Email inherits the best of it — real-time co-editing, an enormous template and asset library, and a Brand Kit that can build itself from your website URL. If email is an occasional job sitting alongside your decks and social posts, it will serve you well.
Where it stops is the email part. Canva doesn’t send, doesn’t host the images in the email it exports, has no email client preview, no separate mobile editing, and can’t import existing HTML. If email is what your team actually ships, Postcards covers the workflow from the first block to a one-click export straight into your ESP.

Choose what Designmodo can use
We keep essential cookies on for security, your account, your cart and remembering this choice. Optional categories stay off unless you enable them.
Essential and security
Your login session and account, your shopping cart and checkout, payment and fraud prevention through Stripe, anti-abuse checks through Cloudflare Turnstile, our HelpScout support chat, and remembering this cookie choice and announcements you close. It also covers Metorik, our store reporting, which records how you reached the site so orders can be attributed, and Sentry, which reports errors so we can keep the apps working. Plausible analytics and Pulsetic uptime and performance monitoring are included too; both are cookieless and store no personal identifiers.
Analytics and performance
Cookie-based measurement through Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager: page views, referring pages, browser and device details, approximate region from your IP, and product events. Inside our apps it also covers PostHog and Amplitude, which help us understand how features are used; session recording is off. Leave this off and measurement stays cookieless and non-identifying.
Marketing and attribution
Google Ads conversion tracking and remarketing: advertising identifiers and landing page attribution, so we can measure which campaigns lead to signups and purchases.
What is not optional: account sessions, cart and checkout, payment and security workflows, and abuse prevention. These are needed to provide the service safely.
